Our Learning Next Week in 2B...

Language Arts: 

In Grammar, we are still working hard on prepositions, and objects of prepositions. Students will also be introduced to direct quotations this week.

In Literature, we will read chapters 11-13 of The Boxcar Children, and talk about assumptions! Students will write a journal reflection after each of these last 3 chapters from the perspective on one of the Alden children. We had a great brainstorming session about the difference between a home and a shelter. We also gave our opinion on Dr. Moore not telling Mr. Alden about the children. There was a great conversation happening in 2B about this! Be sure to ask your scholar what they think.

Tuesday: tried, try, vein, except, aunt, ant, capture, else, bridge, offer
Wednesday: suffer, center, front, running, run, rule, carry, chain, death, learn

Please help your scholar practice memorizing their stanza of The Night Before Christmas. See their homework folder for stanza separation. 

Math: On Monday, we will take a quiz covering the first 5 chapters we have covered this semester. Please help your scholar with their cumulative review test that was sent home over the weekend. On Tuesday, we will move into Chapter 6, multiplication of 2’s. This is a quick chapter, as most of the students are already showing mastery of the 2’s table! On Friday, we will introduce the students to the 3’s table!

History: From China, we will now journey to Ancient Greece. Students will learn of many of the origins of western culture and influence. This week, we will introduce the geography of Greece and learn about the legendary Greek Gods and Goddesses.  Ask your child to tell you a fun fact about one of the deities and areas of interest in Ancient Greece. 

Science: Our entomologists will continue their study of insects by learning about singing and glowing insects! Do you know which insects these are? See if your scholar can name them. We will also learn more about the largest group of insects on earth - armored insects: beetles!
